Clinic Overview
Our clinic committee would like to extend an invitation for you to attend a truly unique football
officiating clinic. We have assembled an outstanding group of nationally prominent officials,
observers and supervisors who are planning to share their experience, philosophy and knowledge
with each of you. Ample time is provided so that you will have the opportunity to meet, greet and
network with your fellow clinic participants, clinic staff, and invited guests.

The program will include group sessions, position meetings, and special instruction on all areas of
officiating including seven man mechanics review. Imagine 2-days of sharing lessons with NFL,
Division I Collegiate and State Championship Football Officials. Plus, a continental breakfast and
lunch will be followed by presentations from our renowned guest speakers. Clinic participants will also
be afforded the opportunity to work post-clinic NCAA scrimmages, semi-pro games, and/or flag
football assignments based on geographical locations with our affiliated programs. It doesn’t get any
better than this!!!

This is our 2nd clinic and we are very fortunate again to have Howard University as the host. We
expect to improve on the successful format and have reserved more favorable facilities. We have
also increased the number of scrimmages at Howard University to afford officials more repetitions on
the field. By starting the clinic on Friday afternoon we have added the needed time to enhance your
classroom and on-field experience.

The clinic is divided into four stages. First, we will have a general session regarding collegiate 7-man
mechanics and how they relate to the running, passing and kicking games. Second, after a brief
pregame session on Friday afternoon, clinic participants will report to the field where they will receive
on-field instruction while working one of the scrimmages. Third, we will reconvene Saturday morning
and have several breakout sessions where we will address mechanics by breaking into 4 groups: line
of scrimmage officials (LJ and HL), deep wing officials (BJ, FJ, SJ), referees, and umpires. Finally,
after a pre-game classroom session on Saturday morning, the clinic participants will again report to
the field where they will receive on-field instruction while working one of the Saturday afternoon
scrimmages.

The clinic is designed for both a new-to-officiating high school official and the more seasoned
collegiate official. The clinic emphasizes putting an official in the right place at the right time to make
the right call!

Clinic Agenda
The agenda has been set. Registration is scheduled on Friday, March 27, from 1:00 to 3:00
PM
and the opening ceremony will start at 3:00 PM. Registration and the Opening will be at Burr
Gymnasium. The clinic will end on Saturday, March 28, at 6:45 PM.

On-Field Instruction
This clinic is proud to work in conjunction with Howard University. Their spring practices have started
and on-field work is planned. To ensure that each participant gets sufficient field time, there will be a
scrimmage on Friday and a scrimmage on Saturday.
If you plan to work on the field the
following attire is requested:
hat, stripped shirt, knickers, whistle, flag and bean bag. Be
prepared for inclement weather! There will be a NFL and NCAA clinician for each position at each
site. In the event of inclement weather an indoor mechanics demonstration will be substituted.

Post- Scrimmage Review
Following the scrimmages there will be a brief review session. During this post-scrimmage review, the
observers will critique overall performance, including rule interpretation, mechanics and positioning,
and general field presence. You will have the opportunity to ask the observers questions regarding
your performance. We hope that you leave your scrimmage with a greater understanding of the
mechanics and the philosophies necessary to be a quality football official.
