Clinic Wrap-Up
The 1st Annual Tom Beard Football Officials Clinic was very fortunate to
have Howard University as the host. Its fine facilities and mid Atlantic
location make it an ideal site.
The clinic was designed for both a new-to-officiating high school official
and the more seasoned collegiate official. The emphasis of the clinic was
training an official to be in the right place at the right time to make the
right call! The following list of items were on the agenda:
- Better officiating
- Mechanics overview
- Break/Dress for field work
- What a supervisor looks for in selecting an official
- Does your game move smoothly–it’s a crew concept
- The process of clinics and camps
Post- Scrimmage Review
Following the scrimmage there was a brief review session. During this
post game review, the observers critiqued overall performance, including
rule interpretation, keys, mechanics and positioning, and general field
presence. We hope that you left the scrimmage with a greater
understanding of the mechanics and the philosophies necessary to be a
quality official.
